This Privacy Policy explains what information 1BY ("Platform", "we", "us", "our") collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described here, in addition to our Terms of Service.
1.1 When you register, we collect your email address, a username of your choosing, and a password, which is stored in encrypted (hashed) form and never in plain text.
1.2 If you use the platform, we collect the content you choose to create and share, including stories, questions, comments, and answers.
1.3 If you use direct messaging, we store the messages exchanged between you and other users so that conversations can be displayed to both participants.
1.4 If you choose to use the location-sharing feature to arrange an in-person meeting, we temporarily process the location you mark on the map. This is only shared with another user when both of you have explicitly and mutually consented.
2.1 We use your information solely to operate the Platform: to authenticate your account, display your content to other users, deliver messages, calculate meetup routes, and respond to support requests submitted through our contact form.
2.2 We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.
3.1 Your data is stored using Firebase/Firestore, a database service operated by Google. Passwords are hashed before storage and cannot be viewed by us in plain text.
3.2 We use reasonable technical measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4.1 We rely on a small number of external services to operate the Platform:
4.2 These services process limited data as needed to provide their function and are not used to build advertising profiles of our users.
5.1 Location sharing is entirely optional and requires the explicit, mutual consent of both users involved in a conversation before either party's location becomes visible to the other.
5.2 Consent can be withdrawn by either user at any time, which immediately removes the ability to view each other's shared location.
5.3 We are not responsible for what happens once two users agree to meet in person. Please refer to our Terms of Service for safety guidance.
6.1 You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. When you do, your email address, username, and login credentials are permanently removed.
6.2 Conversations you had with other users may remain visible to the other participant, since deleting your account does not remove content from someone else's side of a conversation — much like deleting a text message does not remove it from the recipient's phone.
6.3 Stories and questions you shared remain on the Platform after account deletion, since they may continue to help other users. They are no longer associated with your account and will typically be shown as posted by a deleted user.
6.4 If you would like to request removal of specific content before deleting your account, or have questions about what happens to your data, please reach out through our contact form.
7.1 You may access, update, or delete your account information at any time through your account settings.
7.2 For any request that is not available directly in your account settings — including questions about your data — you may contact us through the official contact form. Requests will be reviewed and handled manually.
8.1 The Platform is not intended for individuals under sixteen (16) years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under this age. Please see Article 1 of our Terms of Service for more detail.
9.1 We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
